In the 1970’s there were not any at all!
By 1998 there were 3 million.
In early 2007 there were around 65 million, but the 100 million mark was reached before the end of the year.
I predict that it will be only a year or two before the 200 million mark is reached.
What am I referring to?
The answer is addresses. Not addresses as in where we live, but addresses out there on the World Wide Web (WWW), where web sites live. We call them Domain names, and each one is unique.
I registered this . com URL “100 Million Domains”, early in 2007. It was not long after before 100 million domains names were registered with the international body in charge of domain name registration ICANN.
There are not many things, in fact none that I can think of, which have grown any where near as fast as the rate of growth of Domain name registration.
With the information contained therein the Flash movie below was obviously built and published during 2007.
